Biography

Devon Schuyler has been a medical writer and editor for 20 years. Her most recent staff position was
Executive Editor of
The Johns Hopkins White Papers, a series of 13 publications for educated
consumers. Before that, she boosted readership scores as editor of
General Surgery News, Cardiology
Special Edition,
and other newsmagazines for physicians.

Devon has helped aspiring medical writers break into the field through her classes at Portland State
University and Portland Community College. As an expert in her field, she has been interviewed for the
health section of
The Nashua Telegraph and the newsletter of the National Association of Science
Writers. She also served as Secretary of the Northwest chapter of the American Medical Writers
Association from 2006 to 2008.

She has a special interest in evidence-based medicine, and was one of eight
 journalists nationwide
selected to attend the Rocky Mountain Evidence-Based Health Care Workshop.

Her interest in medicine began as an undergraduate when she became a New York State-certified
Emergency Medical Technician.

Devon currently writes and edits for a variety of publications, including Medscape,
The Johns Hopkins
White Papers,
and The Los Angeles Times.
